Running with Shirley

Shirley is like one of the few friends I made from XC. the other ones, i’m cool with, but none of ‘em were as easy to talk to as Shirley. we used to be at the same pace and we’d talk a lot. we went hiking at one point together and she’d invite me to go running. she asked me to go running during break to get back in shape for track. her dad picked us up. once we got there.. wow! it’s so green. usually it’s like a desert, of dead yellow hay-looking grasses and black, leafless trees. my first memories of montgomery hills is of the heat. and how a girl fainted in my arms in one of the first meets. (maybe it was the first?) everything is dead, and the heat was intense. during our meet seasons were some of the hottest days of the year.

but today, it looked so lush and abundant. i was in awe of the trees after the first hills. it was kind of beautiful. after running up the damp dirt hills and being greeted by these white, blossom looking trees.

i wish everybody could go and see it in person.
